Jessamy is a flute and piccolo player based in Nottingham and London. As a musician and teacher with years of solo, orchestral and chamber music experience, she strives to collaborate with other musicians and bring music to new audiences and young players.
With a Master’s and an honours degree in performance and six years of music college training with renowned musicians, she has studied with many influential flautists including Wissam Boustany, Margaret Campbell, Julian Coward and Anna Noakes. Most recent teachers are Anna Pope and piccolo specialist Christopher Green. Jessamy prides herself on her reliability and work ethic and firmly believes that the life of any musician, however accomplished they might be, must be an ongoing journey of improvement. She has played in as many masterclasses as possible, most recently with Adam Walker, Susan Milan, Philippa Davies and Mary-Karen Clardy.
Jessamy has been passionate about ensemble playing since joining her first youth orchestra. Through her studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire (Trinity College of Music), she has played in a variety of orchestral concerts. Highlights include Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, Hindemith’s Metamorphosis and concerts alongside players from Bournemouth and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras.
Jessamy played first flute with the BBC Elstree Concert Band for three years, tackling contemporary repertoire and often doubling on the piccolo. Orchestral performances include the Camden Symphony, the Amati, the Arioso, the Collaborative and Sidcup Symphony Orchestra.
Jessamy’s recent appearances have seen her play in Austria (Vienna), Germany (Karlsruhe, Speyer) and Edinburgh (Fringe Festival.) She regularly performs at venues across the capital including St Johns Square, BBC Maida Vale, Indigo at the O2, The Actor’s Chuch and Christ Church Spitafields.
A passionate advocate of music education, she has supported music service performances by playing in the Hounslow Music Service Orchestra, a Lewisham schools festival and for Nottinghamshire Music Hub.
She also performs at weddings, charity events and session work as both a soloist and with her flute and guitar chamber group.
In addition to flute teaching privately and in schools, Jessamy has worked on many outreach and creative education projects to make music accessible to all. These include facilitating a music club at a disadvantaged Brixton school, a “Lewisham Live” Festival, “Cuppa and Concert” public talks and many primary school workshops.
Jessamy loves to explore the many colours and musical styles the flute has to offer, and works to inspire the next generation of flautists. She has taken part in a variety of unusual performances, from pop to folk and world music. She has worked closely with dancers and composers, for instance with the Cohan Collective Yorke Dance Project. As a flute and piccolo player with a broad taste and range, she is perennially interested in new creative projects and artistic collaborations.
